Marc works as a vocal coach as part of the staff at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, the Mediterranean Opera Studio & Festival in Sicily and the Cratoule Summer Singing School in France. He also worked at the Royal College of Music, the Royal Academy of Music and Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London. He is a visiting coach atthe Buchmann Mehta School of Music in Tel Aviv and has worked as a repetiteur in the Aix en Provence festival in France, the Opera pa Skaret festival in Sweden, Stimme Sleib Seele in Salzburg, the Dartington festival in the UK, and the IVAI opera festival in Tel Aviv.
During the past 25 years of playing for voice lessons with a variety of great masters, coaching singers, and working as a répétiteur, I’ve learnt a lot about the psychology of opera singers, the nature of the voice, and the acoustics of the opera and concert halls.
I’m now in the position to advise about how to develop your voice from any given stage towards your goals. I always give priority to maintaining the voice in a healthy condition and will advise about optimal and musical breathing and how to keep the voice resonating clearly throughout the range and staying fresh for lengthy periods of time. I will work with you on the clarity of your text, keeping the vowels aligned to maintain a good legato and consistency of sound, studying your score in depth to adhere both to the composer’s style and the requirements of each specific musical phrase as well as correct pronunciation in Italian, German, French and English.
As part of your coaching session, I provide specific advice for your own practice sessions to make sure you can assimilate what we have covered in the session in order for your body to retain the information. I will guide you through the process of creating an interpretation of each aria or song, based on the score, your sensibilities and voice type. I’m also happy to advise about repertoire choices and point towards a specific fach if this is appropriate to the stage of your development.
